BASIS Soil & Water Training: Thursday 14th / Friday 15th / Thursday 21st / Friday 22nd January 2021
Online Examination: Written Thursday 28th January (am) & Viva Friday 29th January 2021 (am). Remotely administered online by BASIS – Full details will be provided in advance and you will get a trial to test your equipment.

Venue will be fully Covid prevention compliant.
BASIS Soil & Water Content & Suitability
Our course covers the importance of soil organic matter and soil structure plus the legal requirements for the protection of soil and the maintenance of soil health.
Methods are explored which prevent wind / water erosion and minimise diffuse water pollution
The mechanics, economics and environmental aspects of cultivation will be examined as will the role of plant nutrients.
Training also covers the safe and legal application of farm manures and other organic manures to land.
Sessions are a mix of presentations, interactive quizzes, practical sessions and exercises.
The BASIS syllabus includes:
- Soil protection and soil health
- Prevention of water and wind erosion
- Mechanics, economics and environmental aspects of cultivation
- Texture and structure of soil
- Soil organic matter
- Soil water properties
- Drainage and irrigation
- Plant macro/micronutrients and fertiliser planning
- Manures and soil organic inputs to enhance crop growth and their effects on diffuse pollution
Designed for those who wish to achieve their BASIS Certificate in Soil and Water Management. Also suitable for advisers, farmers and farm managers who wish to improve their knowledge.
The course attracts 25 CPD points for the BASIS Professional Register.
£748 (+ VAT) + £297 exam fee, which includes course materials, lunch and refreshments throughout.
There is a 1% training fee discount per person when booking 2+ places (for groups of 5 or more contact the office for discount information)
Candidates will need to provide their own copy of RB209 (AHDB version), Code of Good Agricultural Practice and NVZ Guidelines. The course fee above does not include your ‘Think Soils’ manual which will be charged separately if you do not already have a copy.
