Course Content

This course is particularly suited to those without an agriculture qualification, who would like to understand the principles of agronomy and obtain a recognised qualification in agronomy. It can be taken as an introductory course prior to the full BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection. The course comprises lectures, practical sessions and crop walks and is in three two-day blocks and spread over the growing season. It ends with a written exam in June. Once registered, participants are given a login to on-line course material.

 

UK Crops and Soils

25th & 26th November 2020

Major combinable and root crops identification, markets and agronomy. Key plant protection issues. Soil structure, texture and crop nutrition.

Agrochemicals, Fertilisers and Legislation

3rd & 4th March 2021

Types of agrochemical and fertiliser. Legislation affecting agrochemical and fertiliser use. Safe use of agrochemcials and fertilisers.

Plant Protection

7th & 8th June 2021

ID and biology of weeds, pests and diseases. ICM control strategies. Revision for exam.

Exam

9th June 2021

Written exam (40 multiple choice questions and 3 structured short answer questions).

Course Costs

This course costs £792 + BASIS examination fee of £220 (total £1,012).

Refreshments and lunch are included in the cost, but not accommodation.
