BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection (Agriculture)
Course Content
This course is for those who have previous training or experience in agronomy, and will be supplying or selling agrochemicals or giving advice on their use. It is also of interest to growers who wish to extend their knowledge of spray inputs and programmes. The course covers the main arable crops including potatoes.
Pre-BASIS 23rd & 24th September 2020
This introductory course covers the biology and ID of weeds, pests and diseases and introduces the major groups of pesticides. It can be attended or alternatively studied on-line. Attendance recommended for those who lack relevant knowledge and experience of weeds, pests and disease etc. There will be the opportunity to discuss training needs and the BASIS project.
Agronomy Course 2nd – 6th November 2020
This is an intensive course that focuses on agronomy and control of weeds, pests and diseases.
Safety Course 18th – 22nd January 2021
This covers pesticide development & registration, formulation, application, resistance issues, active ingredients and legislation – environmental and safety aspects of pesticide use, ICM.
Crop Walks (optional but encouraged)
2nd December 2020 / 10th February 2021 / 19th May 2021
Revision Day and Exams
Revision material, written exams and viva. 23rd & 24th February 2021 also 8th & 9th June 2021 subject to demand
Course Costs
Full course including training, crop walks, revision & full exams – £1,605 + BASIS examination fee of £417 (total £2,022).
Ad hoc training days at £120/day
Refreshments and lunch are included in the cost, but not accommodation.
BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection (Grassland and Forage Crops)
Course Content
This is similar to the Certificate in Crop Protection (Agriculture), but is intended for those selling or giving advice on agrochemicals for grass and fodder crops, rather than major arable crops such as potatoes. It is anticipated to be of interest to those working in parts of the country where livestock farming predominates.
Agronomy (Grass and Forage) Course 9th – 11th December 2020
Introduction to grassland and forage crops. Biology and control of weeds, pests, diseases and disorders.
Agronomy (Cereals) Course 2nd – 6th November 2020
Agronomy of cereal crops. Biology and control of weeds, pests, diseases and disorders.
